Yala - Let's Go!

Egyptian dance is a solo dance crafted by, for and on an individual. It is a dance that through its many mutable styles and manifestations has at its centre a presence and character that exude a love of life that is vital and undeniably contemporary.

An important element of the performance is its context dependency. It is an improvisation exchange that takes place between the musicians, dancer and the audience.

The compulsion to join the dancer can, depending on the setting, either be actually fulfilled or cherished as a most enjoyable frustration. Such a positive expression of life is presented as a gift for all to enjoy and, like all such presents, is eagerly awaited by recipients from across all boundaries - gender, age and class. The excitement generated by the promise of a performance is electric and all encompassing.

Both the dancer's strong central presence and energy, and her costume are the gift wrapping of a dance whose vibrancy, soul, depth, sensuality and playfulness enable everyone present to revel in collective pleasure.

The dancer is a woman, a communicator and the unselfish donor of her bountiful talents, but she is never alone. There has to be an audience. An audience that know how to play and appreciate, that are neither subject or object but linked by the multi-directional positivity of the dance.
